I came to Canada from Nigeria as a student. I live in Winnipeg. Coming out as bisexual has not been easy as I am from a society where being gay or bisexual is unacceptable and a crime. When my family found out, they did not understand and so they did not support me. My experience since coming out to live freely as who I truly am has been a roller-coaster of emotions for me. I have been in and out of depression. This has affected my study life and even life in general for me. I have been reported to the authorities back home about my sexuality, hence I cannot go back. I am glad to have found a community where I feel safe enough to be myself and tell my story and where I have the opportunity to help others going through similar issues like me. I contribute to this wonderful community by volunteering remotely from Winnipeg. My hope and dream is to remain in Canada where I have found my safe haven and live my life freely as a bisexual female while helping others like me.
